Fans of the “King of the Wild Frontier”!
Fess Parker’s portrayal of Davy Crockett in the Disney Sunday night television series had children across the country hooked on frontier adventure, coonskin caps and Indian wars. Crockett became a household name in the 1950s when “Davy-mania” translated into clothes, books, games, and toys – all Davy Crockett logo merchandise. The craze peaked in 1955 when 5,000 coonskin caps sold daily. Fess recently donated his original coonskin cap ensemble to the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History in Washington, DC.
